Miyawaki Forests, Terrariums & Ambience Design: What Rajput Farms Builds
Miyawaki forests, large terrariums and ambience design are three very different scales of the same skill - reading how plants, light and space actually work together. Here is what each one involves and where Rajput Farms has built them.
Rajput Farms works at three very different scales of the same skill: reading how plants, light and space fit together. A Miyawaki forest is about density and native species on a few hundred square feet. A terrarium is about controlling a tiny sealed ecosystem inside glass. Ambience design is about shaping how a whole farmhouse, lawn or courtyard feels to be in. Here is what each one actually involves, and where we have built them.
Miyawaki Forest Creation, Design & Execution
The Miyawaki method plants native tree and shrub species very close together on the same plot, instead of spacing them out the way a normal garden is planted. Done right, the young forest grows several times faster than a conventional plantation, becomes self-sustaining within a few years, and needs far less upkeep afterward than a lawn or landscaped garden.
We handle the full process ourselves - soil testing and preparation, choosing the right mix of native species for the local climate, the dense multi-layer planting pattern, and the first two to three years of maintenance while the forest establishes itself. We have executed a Miyawaki native forest project in Unnao, and we take on both small urban forest patches and larger plots for farmhouses, institutions and factory premises around Kanpur.
Why Native Species Matter
- They are already adapted to local rainfall and soil, so survival rates are higher
- They support local birds and insects better than imported ornamental species
- They need far less watering and fertiliser once established
Large Terrarium Creation
A terrarium is a planted ecosystem built inside a glass or transparent container, closed or part-open, where moisture largely recycles itself instead of needing daily watering. We design and build these at a large scale - as statement pieces for homes, offices, hotel lobbies and farmhouses - layering drainage material, charcoal, soil and moss before planting species that thrive in a closed, humid environment.
A large terrarium takes more planning than a small desktop one: airflow, light exposure through glass, and species that will not outgrow the container all have to be worked out before planting. We build these as a custom design service, matched to the space and light available at the site.
Ambience Design & Farmhouse Development
Beyond individual forests or terrariums, we also work on the overall feel of a space - how a farmhouse, lawn, courtyard or entrance looks and feels once the plants, pathways, lighting and seating are in place together. This covers full farmhouse development projects, where we plan the landscaping, green cover and outdoor layout of the property from the ground up, as well as smaller ambience upgrades to an existing lawn or courtyard.
We recently supplied and installed indoor plants for the Reserve Bank of India's Kanpur office, bringing live greenery into a government financial institution with strict access and maintenance requirements - the kind of work that needs reliability and attention to detail, not just planting know-how.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a Miyawaki forest take to establish?
A Miyawaki forest typically needs active maintenance - watering, weeding and mulching - for the first two to three years. After that, the dense canopy shades out weeds and the forest largely maintains itself.
Can a terrarium survive without any maintenance?
A well-built closed terrarium needs very little upkeep once established, but it is not maintenance-free - occasional pruning and checking for excess condensation are still needed.
Do you handle farmhouse development from scratch?
Yes. We plan and execute landscaping and green cover for farmhouse properties from an empty plot through to a finished, maintained outdoor space.
Which cities do you serve for these services?
We are based in Kanpur and primarily serve Kanpur and the surrounding Uttar Pradesh region for Miyawaki forests, terrariums, ambience design and farmhouse development.
