Product Description
Water chestnut (singhara, Trapa natans) is an aquatic crop grown in ponds and lakes. The fresh nuts are peeled and the white kernels are dried until hard. Dried kernels keep much longer than fresh singhara, which makes them suitable for long-distance shipping, storage and year-round milling into singhara atta. Singhara atta is naturally gluten-free and widely used during fasting (vrat) and in rotis, pakoras, halwa and as a thickener.
